Mast Way hosted a Technology and Library Information Night on Thursday, September 18th, bringing together parents of kindergarten through 4th-grade students to explore digital learning and library resources. The evening featured presentations from Digital Learning Specialist Susan Leifer and Librarian David McCormick, who shared insights into how technology and library resources support student success.
Ms. Leifer emphasized that digital safety, integration, and forming proper technology habits early are the core drivers of her program. "These foundational elements set our students up for lifelong success in an increasingly digital world," she explained.
Parents learned about the comprehensive scope and sequence of the digital learning curriculum, which encompasses coding fundamentals, essential computer skills, large-scale project integration, robotics exploration, and "unplugged" technology lessons that teach computational thinking without devices.
Mr. McCormick showcased the numerous digital platforms that extend learning beyond the traditional library walls. These resources provide students with access to a broader variety of fiction titles, up-to-date non-fiction resources that keep pace with current information, opportunities for teachers to differentiate learning and meet each student at their appropriate level, and built-in accommodations for diverse learning needs.
A highlight of the library presentation was StoryBoard That, an innovative platform that empowers students to become authors and illustrators of their own graphic novels, fostering creativity and storytelling skills.
The evening's discussions encompassed digital safety best practices, navigation of online learning platforms, curriculum integration strategies, and simple tips and tricks to support family success throughout the school year.
If you were unable to attend and have questions about technology integration or library resources, please don't hesitate to reach out to David McCormick or Susan Leifer.
