Mrs. Fitch Creates Magical Mugs for Coding and Cocoa

Teacher holding handmade clay mugs

Come behind the scenes with me to see one of the many teachers working tirelessly to make Coding and Cocoa such a success. Art teacher Mrs. Fitch begins teaching fourth graders how to sculpt their own mugs from clay in late October.

She meticulously guides them through each step: rolling out their slabs, carefully cutting pieces with stencils, and cementing the parts together with slip to prevent leaks. Each student decorates their mug to reflect their unique style, and then Mrs. Fitch spends countless hours monitoring the kiln to ensure every piece is perfectly ready for the big day.

Coding and Cocoa Celebration

Walking into the fourth grade classrooms and seeing students celebrate with mugs they built and designed by hand—all thanks to our wonderful art teacher, Mrs. Fitch—is pure joy.Colorful tray of handmade clay mugs sitting on a desk
