“These sophomores have shown deep curiosity, perseverance, and an impressive passion for history—not just as something to study, but as something to actively engage with and contribute to,” said ORHS Social Studies teacher Nate Grove. “Seeing ten of them advance to the National History Day national competition is exciting and very rewarding. We couldn’t be prouder of their commitment and growth.”
ORHS has a long-standing tradition of excellence at National History Day. This year, we proudly commend Ada Gerard and Natalie Buck for their documentary “Ona Judge: The Enslaved Woman Who Took Her Freedom Before It Could Be Taken From Her.” Their project earned the Outstanding Project on Black History award, sponsored by the Manchester NAACP and presented by National History Day New Hampshire. This recognition honors their exceptional use of primary sources to illuminate an important yet often overlooked chapter of New Hampshire history.
We congratulate this year’s student representatives and wish them the best as they showcase their work on the national stage in June.
