Science Club is an opportunity for 5th grade students to explore the world of science through interactive labs, projects, and demonstrations. Eighth grade mentors assist fifth grade students. Science Club is held in the 8th grade science room #444 from 3:00 p.m. - 4:05 p.m.   

The number of interested students will determine how many sessions each child will attend. Each group will be limited to 18 students for safety reasons. A schedule will be emailed once numbers are finalized. The club will start this October and run through late winter. The day of the week for the club will be determined shortly.

• Please pack a snack for your child
• In addition to working in the classroom, we may go on some walking field trips. Additional details will be provided to participating families

2024-2025 schedule:

The ORMS Biotech club students learn about biotech drugs and how they work. Club topics build upon the cell biology and genetics concepts they learned in 6th and 7th grades.

Last year, Biotech Club students learned about the CRISPR-Cas9 drug made by Vertex Pharmaceuticals that treats sickle cell anemia. They also leaned about DNA sequencing, cancer immunotherapy and gene therapy drugs.

The club enjoyed several great field trips last year. We visited the Hubbard Center for Genome Studies at UNH, and we traveled to Lexington, MA, where we toured the labs of LogicBio, a gene therapy company. We also had a virtual meeting with the very accomplished physician scientist, Dr. Larence Fong of the University of California at San Francisco.

Anyone that is interested in biotechnology or science should consider joining the club!

ORMS Baking Club hopes to meet once a month in Room 222 (Mr. Derick's STEM room).

Fall 2024 dates:

• October 2, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

• December 13, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m.

Participation is determined for each individual session based on the first 20 students to sign up on provided Microsoft Form. The signup link will be posted on the Club Page on the ORMS website and students will hear about its posting in Morning Announcements. Please keep in mind that there is no way to sign up for the year and signups are only for the coming session. You must signup again to attend another Baking Club session.

Get your measuring cups ready! Just kidding; we have all the equipment and ingredients!

Buddy Pack is an after-school club for 6th graders and returning 7th graders that is focused on making connections, kindness, and community service.

2024-2025 schedule:

Middle School French Club will continue this year. We will have two groups: a 5th and 6th grade group; and a 7th and 8th grade group.  All are welcome to join even if not enrolled in French class.

The club will meet once a month on Tuesdays in room 203 (French classroom) from 3:05 – 4:10 (late bus).  

Each meeting will have a theme. We will have an activity connected to that theme as well as a French snack. Our first theme is the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although we may have combined meetings with both groups during the year, the first meeting will be in separate groupings. 

The first meeting dates are as follows:

• 7th and 8th grade group: 2024 Paris Olympics, Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, room 203; 3:05-4:10 p.m.
• 5th and 6th grade group: 2024 Paris Olympics, Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, room 203; 3:05-4:10 p.m.

Guitar Club meets on Thursdays after 2nd wave in Room 211. The club runs until 3:00 p.m. No experience or equipment required.

This club is for students of all experience levels who want to learn specific songs, basic chords, or just make noise with an amplifier.

• The first meeting will be October 3, 2024.
• We meet every other Thursday (generally) in room 326 until 4:00 p.m.

We will be watching the Harry Potter movies and making Harry Potter themed crafts. We will be doing many of the activities that we did last year.

The Jazz Band is an auditioned group that meets after school on Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Literary Magazine is a club for students interested in creating, editing and publishing a school magazine. The magazine features creative writing, drawings and other art work made by students.

This club will meet once a month on Thursdays in Room 329 from 3:05 – 4:05 p.m.

The Outing Club hosts various activities in collaboration with local organizations throughout the school year! Our goal is to get students outside and explore the local area. Every trip is geared to any ORMS student, and no experience is needed. We aim to go on adventures ones a month, sometimes after school and on weekends (depending on the outing). 

For any upcoming trips, we will post specific details through Mr. Sullivan's weekly parent newsletter. If you are interested in any potential trips, please reach out when you see those details. Below is an outline of what we have done previously, and our tentative hopes for this year! 

• September: College Woods/Blue Job Hike 
• October: Mountain Biking, Zombie Ziplines*
• December: XC Skiing (weather permitting) *
• January: Rock Climbing at Indoor Ascent *
• February: UNH Climbing Wall 
• March: Orienteering, Low Rope Course elements
• April: Trail Maintenance
• May: Overnight Camping Trip
• June: Kayaking* 

*these trips do come with a financial cost.

The Sustainability Club will be meeting on Mondays from 3:05 - 4:00 p.m. in room 307 throughout the year. Anyone is welcome to join without signing up. You can join at any point throughout the year. 

We will be working on sustainability at ORMS through various projects, including planning Earth Week, composting, and more!

We will be meeting on the following Mondays (subject to additional dates based on projects):

This club is offered to students in grades 6, 7, and 8. VEX IQ Robotics meets 2-3 times per week starting in late September. Competitive events take place on weekends. The end of the season can range from late January to early May depending on a team’s accomplishments.

Students wishing to participate should be registered in FinalForms by September 11, 2024.

This club offers students the opportunity to play vintage video game consoles such as GameBoy Color, Nintendo 64 and Game Cube. Video Games typically played are Mario Cart and Super Smash Bros. Modern gaming systems (like Nintendo Switch) are not allowed as per ORMS IT Department policy. Students may also join Dungeons & Dragons campaigns or trade Pokémon cards.
