Business Education

 The Business Department offers a variety of courses to meet the needs of all students, whether they are preparing for two or four year colleges, or for employment in the workforce. Students are required to complete the following: Economics (hands-on, project oriented) – .5 credit

Business Competencies

  • Structure and Function:

Students will analyze the relationship between the structure and function of business systems at multiple levels (individual, organizational, and societal) and recognize how these systems address needs, goals, and constraints such as scarcity and resources.

  • Business Models:

Students will construct and apply a variety of business models (economic, marketing, and financial) to observe, understand, and make predictions about business behavior, trends, and outcomes.

  • Decision Making:

Students will analyze and evaluate decisions in business contexts by applying relevant concepts and models to assess strategies, behavior, and outcomes.

 

Computer Science Education

The Computer Science Department offers a variety of courses to meet the needs of all students in order to successfully use technology tools at ORHS and beyond. Students should be proficient with cloud-based computing using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software such as Office 365. If students are not proficient in ALL of these areas, they should consider Introduction to Computer Science in their freshmen/sophomore years. All students who feel they have mastered ALL of these skills should consider taking other intermediate courses such as programming or graphic design related courses such as Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator. Students are required to complete the following: Computer Science – .5 credit

Computer Science Competencies

  • Technical Skill - Students demonstrate a mastery of technical tools. They can approach simple problems using the right tools in effective ways. In programming, this might be specific code structures like loops or functions. In Adobe this might be specific art tools like pens or selection tools.
  • Creativity - Students can use computers to express their ideas and solve novel problems. Students can deploy their technical skills in new novel ways. They can generate new ideas, and seek out answers independently
  • Attention to Detail - Students can use technology in a controlled and organized way. They are able to think carefully about their work on a computer, considering the privacy, security, effectiveness of their work.
