Forty-Seven Oyster River High School Students Inducted Into National Honor Society

Superintendent James Morse and Principal Rebecca Noe are pleased to share that 47 juniors and seniors have been inducted into Oyster River High School’s National Honor Society chapter.

Students were inducted on May 18 in the High School Auditorium.

All Oyster River High School sophomores and juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are invited to apply by the National Honor Society advisor. Students go through a month-long application process which allows them to identify their strengths in different areas, such as character, leadership, and service. Students are selected by a faculty council of five high school teachers.

Oyster River’s National Honor Society chapter members are required to complete 30 hours of community service each year. The chapter supports community and school events including Open House, Barrington Information Night, awards nights, events in Durham, Lee and Madbury, and at the Mast Way and Moharimet Elementary Schools.

Chapter members also organize a fundraiser each fall. Money raised supports the Shirley Thompson Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a graduating National Honor Society member each year. The chapter also donates $1,000 to a charitable group each year. This year’s members selected Children's Hospital at Dartmouth.

"Our National Honor Society students are an amazing group of young people", said Principal Noe. "They volunteer countless hours to the school and community while performing remarkably well in the classroom. I am proud of their accomplishments and look forward to working with them in the future."

Students were honored for their hard work during the ceremony. Previous inductees spoke about their own National Honor Society experiences and new inductees received a certificate of membership followed by a candle-lighting ceremony.
