In celebration of Music in Our Schools Month, the Oyster River orchestra program presented a special concert on March 19 in the Morse Recital Hall at Oyster River Middle School (ORMS). The performance showcased the dedication and talent of students across three ensembles: the middle school chamber orchestra, high school chamber orchestra, and high school full orchestra.

The evening featured an exciting milestone for the high school full orchestra who performed “Tricycle” by Dr. Andrew Boysen. This was the first time the work had ever been performed, and we were honored to have Dr. Boysen conduct the ensemble for this special occasion.

Both Oyster River chamber orchestras are made up of students who choose to rehearse outside their regular class time, committing additional hours to learning additional repertoire beyond what is required in their scheduled orchestra classes.

The high school chamber orchestra is especially notable for its student leadership, with members playing an active role in selecting repertoire and making musical decisions during rehearsals.
