Art Department

The ORHS Art Department offers a variety of two & three-dimensional courses, starting with Introduction to Art, Introduction to Sculpture, & Introduction to Digital Art & Design. After successfully completing one of these prerequisites, students may begin exploring Ceramics 1, Drawing & Painting 1, or Digital Photography, and may then proceed to more advanced course offerings. The ORHS Art Department is committed to fostering a safe and supportive culture necessary for creative risk taking and artistic expression.

ORHS Art Competencies & Standards

  1. Create (60%)
    • Develop Techniques: Practice and improve art-making skills by learning to use new tools, materials, and techniques.

    • Plan: Envision new work & the steps to execute an idea.

    • Take Creative Risks: Try new things, embrace mistakes, and adapt throughout the creative process.

    • Sustain Efforts: Persevere, refine, and complete artistic work.

  2. Reflect & Connect (30%)
    • Expression: Connect personal meaning to original artworks.

    • Reflect & Respond: Perceive and interpret artistic work of self and others.

  3. HOWL (10%)
    • Habits of Work & Learning: Engage appropriately for a successful art experience.
